Staying Safe

How to protect yourself and your passengers from aggression and violence, including hate crime reporting, warning signs, drugs and alcohol, de-escalation, incident recording and CCTV.

What you will learn

  1. 1Explain your right to refuse to accept angry or violent behaviour from a passenger.
  2. 2Identify hate crime and say how and when TfL advises you to report it to the police.
  3. 3List the practical steps that protect you before and during a journey, including the use of a lone worker device.
  4. 4Recognise the eight warning signs that someone may become aggressive.
  5. 5Explain when you have the right to refuse a passenger affected by drink or drugs, and what to do if a passenger is unconscious or very unwell.
  6. 6Use de-escalation techniques and exit a dangerous situation safely.
  7. 7Record and report an incident with the correct details, and state TfL's CCTV signage requirement.
